Which stains darker, the palm or the back of the hand?

The palm, because the skin there is thicker. Designs on the back of the hand come out lighter and fade a little sooner, so keep the paste on longer there.

How do I make a mehndi cone?

Cut a rectangle of cellophane or gift-wrap plastic, roll it into a tight cone, and tape it. Fill it about a third to half full with paste, fold the top over twice and tape it shut. Snip the tiniest bit off the tip: a smaller hole gives finer lines, and you can always cut more.

How can I remove mehndi quickly?

There is no way to remove it instantly, because the dye stains the top layer of skin. You can speed up fading by soaking in warm salt water, gently exfoliating, and using oil or a mild lemon and baking-soda scrub. Don't scrub hard enough to hurt the skin; the stain fades on its own within days to weeks.

How many types of mehndi design are there?

The main styles are traditional Indian (dense, fine, often covering the whole hand), Arabic (bold, open trails), Pakistani (fine and detailed with shading), Moroccan (geometric), Indo-Arabic (a mix), and modern minimal or "aesthetic" designs. Designs are also grouped by where they go: front hand, back hand, fingers, wrist and feet.

Which mehndi design is best for me?

Choose by time and occasion first. For everyday wear or a first try, a simple or minimal design on the back of the hand takes 10 to 20 minutes. For festivals, an Arabic trail or a half-hand design looks rich without taking hours. For a wedding, bridal full-hand designs take several hours and are usually done by an artist.
